Never Sit Next to the Dragon

Tilda grabs Nell's sleeve, her face alarmed, as Nell starts to stand.
Tilda

Don't. Nell. Please don't.

I stood up anyway, because I have never once in my life been good at being told where to sit.

Synopsis

I was working at a laundromat and failing my online classes when Sundermoor Academy mailed me a student file. It says my kind is pending. Everyone else here can shift or cast or do something useful. I can make a vending machine hate me. The school gives me one clear rule: avoid the dragon shifter at the back table. Cormac is supposed to be dangerous. He's also the only person here who looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving instead of a problem. I sit next to him anyway. Now the whole school is watching, and Cormac looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving. I just hope he likes the answer.
