Never Sit Next to the Dragon

A young woman in a plain coat pushes open a heavy door into a tall old library.

The library at Sundermoor had three floors, and all of them smelled like old paper and lemon polish.

I went there because the dining hall had too many eyes in it. Also because Tilda had started looking at me like I was a house fire she could see coming.

Synopsis

I was working at a laundromat and failing my online classes when Sundermoor Academy mailed me a student file. It says my kind is pending. Everyone else here can shift or cast or do something useful. I can make a vending machine hate me. The school gives me one clear rule: avoid the dragon shifter at the back table. Cormac is supposed to be dangerous. He's also the only person here who looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving instead of a problem. I sit next to him anyway. Now the whole school is watching, and Cormac looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving. I just hope he likes the answer.
