Never Sit Next to the Dragon

Close view of the man reading, ink on his fingers, shoulders raised.

Here is what I knew about Cormac. Dragon. Dangerous. Hurt someone, years ago.

Here is what I also knew. Yesterday he moved his notebook one inch so it wasn't crowding me, and I had been thinking about that inch all day.

Synopsis

I was working at a laundromat and failing my online classes when Sundermoor Academy mailed me a student file. It says my kind is pending. Everyone else here can shift or cast or do something useful. I can make a vending machine hate me. The school gives me one clear rule: avoid the dragon shifter at the back table. Cormac is supposed to be dangerous. He's also the only person here who looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving instead of a problem. I sit next to him anyway. Now the whole school is watching, and Cormac looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving. I just hope he likes the answer.
