Never Sit Next to the Dragon

A dark-haired young man in a black jacket sits alone with an untouched tray, looking up.

He was big. Black jacket, sleeves rolled, dark hair, a tray he wasn't eating from. Half the room was not looking at him, and he knew exactly how hard they were not looking.

Tilda

Stop looking at him.

Nell

He's looking at me first.

Synopsis

I was working at a laundromat and failing my online classes when Sundermoor Academy mailed me a student file. It says my kind is pending. Everyone else here can shift or cast or do something useful. I can make a vending machine hate me. The school gives me one clear rule: avoid the dragon shifter at the back table. Cormac is supposed to be dangerous. He's also the only person here who looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving instead of a problem. I sit next to him anyway. Now the whole school is watching, and Cormac looks at me like I'm a riddle worth solving. I just hope he likes the answer.
