Fate Was Wrong

The bleeding young woman looks at her family and turns away from the platform.
Josie

Don't. Both of you, don't.

I didn't beg Dane. I didn't ask the elders to save me.

I looked at my family and saw what staying would cost them.

Dane

Good. Now go sit down.

Josie

I'm going home.

Synopsis

Josie Marlow is the girl everyone in her pack calls perfect. She can fix anything with an engine, she makes everyone laugh, and she has never once shifted. She has told herself for years that the person fated to her will be the one who proves she is enough. Then Dane, the Alpha's son, feels their bond and refuses her in front of the whole pack. The elders agree with him. Josie's family starts paying for standing by her, so she leaves. A year later she lives in a harbor town and fixes boat engines, and nobody there knows what she is. It is small and quiet and hers. Then Eli, an Alpha with power over her kind, finds her and offers her a place. She tells herself she takes the work because she can't say no. But his wolves like her before they learn what she lacks, and the strength she gave up on may not be gone. Can Josie ever trust a bond again after hers was thrown away?
