My Demon Boss

A small woman carrying a tray into a dark, low-lit bar where a huge bald bearded bouncer sits at a table.

The Hush at eleven in the morning is like a pub after a funeral. Chairs up, lights low, someone breathing heavy in the corner.

That someone was Rufus, and he was roughly the size of a bus with a beard.

Synopsis

I run lost property at Bellwether Station. Keys, umbrellas, one suitcase that hums. My life is small and I like it that way. Then a man with no ticket and too many teeth wants that suitcase. He chases me through the luggage tunnels. A demon named Ambrose steps out of a staff door, saves me, and takes me under the station to his bar, The Hush. Here is the rule: I can't talk about monsters, and I can't leave until his council clears me. So I make tea, smile at things that bite, and fix the bar's terrible paperwork. My new boss glares at the coffee machine like it insulted his mother. He saved my life, so I should stop noticing his hands. Right?
