My Baby Has No Last Name

A man and a woman kiss in a small hotel elevator, both laughing, hands in each other's coats.

In the elevator he had her against the rail and she had her hands under his coat.

Somebody got in on floor six and they straightened up and laughed so hard she had to hold his arm.

Synopsis

At my husband's campaign breakfast, Dean thanked his girlfriend for giving him a family and told the whole room I was the problem. I changed the locks before the coffee went cold. Then a man at the hotel bar made me laugh until I forgot my own name. He gave me one night and only a first name. I told myself that was enough. Six weeks later, I am pregnant. The doctors always said this could not happen, so I cry in my shop bathroom and thank no one but the ceiling. Now Dean is trying to drag me back under his thumb. My kind new doctor treats me like glass, and his wedding ring makes me feel things I should not. The stranger's voice is still in my head, but I do not know where he is. How do I protect this baby and keep my pride? And how do I choose between the gentle man who is already taken and the stranger my body remembers?
